Measuring the human dimension of the Great Barrier Reef

Social and economic long term monitoring program

CSIRO’s Social and economic long term monitoring program (SELTMP) is assisting Reef managers and other decision-makers within the Great Barrier Reef region to incorporate the human dimension into their planning and management.

They carry out wide-ranging surveys and analyse the results to determine use, dependency, wellbeing and cultural relationships that coastal residents, commercial and recreational fishers, tourism operators, tourists and the broader Australian community have with the Reef.

This report was the first in a series and presented the findings to the public and decision-makers in an easy-to-digest way, with prominent use of maps, infographics and charts.
